Tobacco making machinery exports skyrocketed to X units in 2021, increasing by 55% against 2020. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 163%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, tobacco making machinery exports stood at $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by 78%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Indonesia (X units) and China (X units) were the largest exporters of machinery for the preparation or making up of tobacco in 2021, resulting at near 34% and 34% of total exports, respectively. Turkey (X units) held the next position in the ranking, distantly followed by Thailand (X units). All these countries together took approx. 17% share of total exports. The following exporters - Taiwan (Chinese) (X units), South Korea (X units) and India (X units) - together made up 7.4% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Turkey (with a CAGR of +30.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Indonesia ($X), China ($X) and India ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 54% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Turkey, South Korea, Thailand and Taiwan (Chinese), which together accounted for a further 22%.
Turkey, with a CAGR of +45.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Asia amounted to $X per unit, declining by -34.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, enjoyed a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the export price increased by 350%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was India ($X per unit), while China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+23.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of machinery for the preparation or making up of tobacco was finally on the rise to reach X units after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 118%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, tobacco making machinery imports declined notably to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 75%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Turkey was the key importing country with an import of around X units, which resulted at 36% of total imports. Indonesia (X units) held a 14% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by the United Arab Emirates (11%) and Georgia (8.6%). Taiwan (Chinese) (X units), Singapore (X units), Uzbekistan (X units), Myanmar (X units), Iraq (X units), Lebanon (X units), Japan (X units), Palestine (X units) and Azerbaijan (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to tobacco making machinery imports into Turkey stood at +30.8%. At the same time, Azerbaijan (+49.3%), Palestine (+49.0%), Singapore (+25.5%), Iraq (+22.6%), Lebanon (+22.3%), Myanmar (+17.5%), the United Arab Emirates (+5.7%) and Uzbekistan (+1.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Azerbaijan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia, with a CAGR of +49.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Taiwan (Chinese) (-5.1%), Georgia (-12.6%), Japan (-14.0%) and Indonesia (-23.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Myanmar, Iraq, Uzbekistan, Taiwan (Chinese), Lebanon and Palestine increased by +35, +8.4, +2.8, +2.4, +1.8, +1.8, +1.7, +1.7 and +1.7 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest tobacco making machinery importing markets in Asia were Turkey ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Indonesia ($X), together comprising 51% of total imports. These countries were followed by Taiwan (Chinese), Singapore, Iraq, Japan, Azerbaijan, Myanmar, Lebanon, Uzbekistan, Palestine and Georgia, which together accounted for a further 16%.
Among the main importing countries, Iraq, with a CAGR of +71.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Asia amounted to $X per unit, reducing by -28.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, enjoyed tangible growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 187% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per unit), while Georgia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Iraq (+39.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
