In 2021, shipments abroad of insecticides increased by 19% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, total exports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +44.3% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 21% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, insecticide exports rose sharply to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 23%. The exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Myanmar (X tons) was the main destination for insecticide exports from China, accounting for a 15% share of total exports. Moreover, insecticide exports to Myanmar exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Thailand (X tons), twofold. The Philippines (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 4.4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Myanmar amounted to +74.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Thailand (+10.1% per year) and the Philippines (+11.5% per year).

In value terms, Brazil ($X), Thailand ($X) and Bangladesh ($X) constituted the largest markets for insecticide exported from China worldwide, together accounting for 23% of total exports. These countries were followed by Vietnam, Indonesia, Nigeria, the Philippines, Peru, Chile, Ghana, Cambodia, Myanmar and Singapore, which together accounted for a further 28%.

Cambodia, with a CAGR of +42.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the average insecticide export price amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -7.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 21% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Myanmar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +52.2% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, South Korea (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of insecticide to China, with a 53% share of total imports. Moreover, insecticide imports from South Korea exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United States (X tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was held by France (X tons), with an 8.1% share.

Singapore, with a CAGR of +257.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average insecticide import price amounted to $X per ton, declining by -16.6% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a mild descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the average import price increased by 8.3% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.
