Exports from the U.S.

In 2021, after three years of growth, there was decline in shipments abroad of insecticides, when their volume decreased by -2.9% to X tons. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2020, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, insecticide exports expanded sharply to $X in 2021. In general, total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +61.8% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 43% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Brazil (X tons), Canada (X tons) and Mexico (X tons) were the main destinations of insecticide exports from the United States, with a combined 57% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Peru, Costa Rica, China, Australia, South Africa, Colombia, Belgium, India, Guatemala and South Korea, which together accounted for a further 27%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in China (with a CAGR of +16.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the key foreign market for insecticide exports from the United States, comprising 33% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Mexico ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Canada, with a 13% share.

In 2021, the amount of insecticides imported into the United States skyrocketed to X tons, jumping by 41% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +67.2% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, insecticide imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

China (X tons), Mexico (X tons) and Canada (X tons) were the main suppliers of insecticide imports to the United States, together comprising 57% of total imports. India, Indonesia, Germany, Taiwan (Chinese), Poland, Vietnam, Israel, Thailand, South Korea and Japan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 37%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Indonesia (with a CAGR of +99.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($X), Mexico ($X) and India ($X) were the largest insecticide suppliers to the United States, with a combined 42% share of total imports. Indonesia, with a CAGR of +106.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average insecticide import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 1.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a mild decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the average import price increased by 5.5%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
