In 2021, the Chinese hydrogen market decreased by -X% to $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X cubic meters in 2020, and then reduced sharply in the following year.

In value terms, hydrogen exports reduced rapidly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of X%. The exports peaked at $X in 2020, and then dropped significantly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Myanmar (X cubic meters) was the main destination for hydrogen exports from China, with a X% share of total exports. Moreover, hydrogen exports to Myanmar exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Macao SAR (X cubic meters), threefold. Hong Kong SAR (X cubic meters) ranked third in terms of total exports with a X% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Myanmar totaled +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Macao SAR (+X% per year) and Hong Kong SAR (-X% per year).

In value terms, Myanmar ($X) remains the key foreign market for hydrogen exports from China, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Taiwan (Chinese) ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Macao SAR, with an X% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Myanmar stood at +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Taiwan (Chinese) (+X% per year) and Macao SAR (+X% per year).

The average hydrogen export price stood at $X per cubic meter in 2021, with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price enjoyed a significant increase. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
