In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of roundwood (coniferous), when their volume decreased by -39.7% to X cubic meters. Overall, exports, however, recorded a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 22,700% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X cubic meters in 2020, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, coniferous roundwood exports fell dramatically to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 8,681% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then contracted significantly in the following year.

The biggest shipments were from Kyrgyzstan (X cubic meters), together recording 100% of total export.
Kyrgyzstan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the roundwood (coniferous) exports, with a CAGR of +38.8% from 2012 to 2021. Kyrgyzstan (+99 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Kyrgyzstan ($X) also remains the largest coniferous roundwood supplier in Central Asia.
In Kyrgyzstan, coniferous roundwood exports expanded at an average annual rate of +47.1% over the period from 2012-2021.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Central Asia amounted to $X per cubic meter, picking up by 8.4% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the export price increased by 644%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per cubic meter. From 2018 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Kyrgyzstan.
From 2012 to 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Kyrgyzstan amounted to +6.0% per year.

Imports in Central Asia
Coniferous roundwood imports soared to X cubic meters in 2021, growing by 25% against the previous year's figure. In general, imports enjoyed a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 112%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, coniferous roundwood imports rose significantly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports posted a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 286% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Kazakhstan represented the largest importer of roundwood (coniferous) in Central Asia, with the volume of imports recording X cubic meters, which was near 75% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Uzbekistan (X cubic meters), making up a 22% share of total imports.
Kazakhstan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the roundwood (coniferous) imports, with a CAGR of +14.3% from 2012 to 2021. Uzbekistan (-2.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Uzbekistan (+22 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Kazakhstan (-8.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, the largest coniferous roundwood importing markets in Central Asia were Kazakhstan ($X) and Uzbekistan ($X).
Kazakhstan, with a CAGR of +4.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per cubic meter, which is down by -11.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the import price increased by 82%. The level of import peaked at $X per cubic meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per cubic meter), while Kazakhstan amounted to $X per cubic meter.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (-7.9%).
