Dried Onion Market Size in Brazil

For the fifth year in a row, the Brazilian dried onion market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by X% to $X in 2020. Overall, consumption saw a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010 when the market value increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level in 2020 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Exports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2020, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Ireland (X kg), China (X kg) and the UK (X kg) were the main destinations of dried onion exports from Brazil, with a combined X% share of total exports.

From 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in Ireland (+X% per year), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for dried onion exported from Brazil were Argentina ($X), Ireland ($X) and China ($X), together comprising X% of total exports.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Ireland recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average dried onion export price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, jumping by X% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a mild reduction. Over the period under review, average export prices hit record highs at $X per tonne in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2020, export prices failed to regain the momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was Uruguay ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Germany ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Colombia, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Brazil

Dried onion imports into Brazil soared to X tonnes in 2020, growing by X% compared with 2019 figures. Overall, imports posted a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2020 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, dried onion imports soared to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, imports saw a remarkable increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2020, India (X tonnes) constituted the largest supplier of dried onion to Brazil, accounting for a X% share of total imports. Moreover, dried onion imports from India exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tonnes), fivefold. The U.S. (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total imports with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of volume from India amounted to +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+X% per year) and the U.S. (+X% per year).

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2020, the country with the highest price was the U.S. ($X per tonne), while the price for India ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt, while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
