In value terms, heterocyclic compound exports dropped to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a perceptible contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 186% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

France (X tons), Russia (X tons) and Poland (X tons) were the main destinations of heterocyclic compound exports from Austria, with a combined 73% share of total exports. Italy, Spain, Germany, Hungary, Canada, the UK, Switzerland, Japan and the Czech Republic lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 24%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Spain (with a CAGR of +124.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, France ($X) remains the key foreign market for heterocyclic compounds exports from Austria, comprising 44% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Spain, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to France stood at +10.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (+154.9% per year) and Spain (+148.7% per year).

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Hungary ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+29.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Austria
In 2021, approx. X tons of heterocyclic compounds were imported into Austria; which is down by -6.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, total imports indicated modest growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -47.1% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 89%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, heterocyclic compound imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 69%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

In 2021, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of heterocyclic compound to Austria, accounting for a 44% share of total imports. Moreover, heterocyclic compound imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Japan (X tons), threefold. Italy (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 9.2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Germany totaled +12.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Japan (+75.1% per year) and Italy (-4.3% per year).
In value terms, Germany ($X), Japan ($X) and China ($X) were the largest heterocyclic compound suppliers to Austria, with a combined 84% share of total imports. These countries were followed by France, the UK, the Netherlands, India, Italy and the United States, which together accounted for a further 16%.
In terms of the main suppliers, the Netherlands, with a CAGR of +115.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average heterocyclic compound import price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 75% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price enjoyed a prominent increase. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while the price for Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
