Moreover, South Korea emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +15.3% from 2012-2021. Papua New Guinea and Taiwan (Chinese) experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Hong Kong SAR (-2.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of China (+23 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Malaysia (-2.4 p.p.), Papua New Guinea (-3.4 p.p.), Japan (-3.5 p.p.), Hong Kong SAR (-3.6 p.p.) and Taiwan (Chinese) (-4.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported sheep and goat meat in Asia-Pacific, comprising 70% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Japan ($X), with a 5.7% share of total imports. It was followed by South Korea, with a 5.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in China amounted to +21.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Japan (+4.7% per year) and South Korea (+22.8% per year).
