Yams Market Size in ASEAN

The ASEAN yams market rose sharply to $X in 2022, picking up by X% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. In 2022, shipments abroad of yams decreased by X% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, yams exports shrank sharply to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, Malaysia (X tons) was the main exporter of yams, mixing up X% of total exports. The Philippines (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a X% share, followed by Vietnam (X%). Singapore (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

Exports from Malaysia increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Vietnam (X%) and the Philippines (X%) displayed positive paces of growth.
