In value terms, shelled hazelnut exports declined to $X in 2023. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2023, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Morocco was the key exporting country with an export of around X tons, which accounted for X% of total exports. South Africa (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a X% share, followed by Tunisia (X%). Kenya (X kg) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Morocco increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2023. At the same time, Tunisia (X%) and Kenya (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tunisia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. South Africa experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of Morocco (X p.p.), Tunisia (X p.p.) and Kenya (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2023, the share of South Africa (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, South Africa ($X), Tunisia ($X) and Morocco ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2023, together comprising X% of total exports.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Tunisia, with a CAGR of X%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2023, declining by X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the export price increased by X%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2022, and then shrank notably in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2023, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kenya ($X per ton), while Morocco ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

For the fourth year in a row, Africa recorded growth in supplies from abroad of shelled hazelnuts, which increased by X% to X tons in 2023. Overall, imports saw strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2023 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In value terms, shelled hazelnut imports soared to $X in 2023. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2023 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

Egypt represented the main importing country with an import of about X tons, which recorded X% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Libya (X tons), Nigeria (X tons), Tunisia (X tons) and Morocco (X tons), together comprising a X% share of total imports. South Africa (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
