South Africa was the key exporter of salmon (prepared or preserved) in Africa, with the volume of exports reaching X tons, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2022. Morocco (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Kenya (X tons) and Equatorial Guinea (X tons). All these countries together took approx. X% share of total exports. Mauritius (X tons), Angola (X tons) and Egypt (X tons) took a little share of total exports.
Exports from South Africa decreased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Equatorial Guinea (X%), Angola (X%), Kenya (X%), Morocco (X%) and Mauritius (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Equatorial Guinea emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Egypt (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest preserved salmon supplier in Africa, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Morocco ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Kenya, with a X% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in South Africa amounted to X%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Morocco (X% per year) and Kenya (X% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, declining by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, enjoyed a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of X% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, preserved salmon imports expanded sharply to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a perceptible setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Democratic Republic of the Congo represented the main importing country with an import of around X tons, which resulted at X% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Namibia (X tons), South Africa (X tons), Zimbabwe (X tons) and Mauritius (X tons), together constituting a X% share of total imports. The following importers - Mozambique (X tons), Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) and Egypt (X tons) - each amounted to a X% share of total imports.
Democratic Republic of the Congo was also the fastest-growing in terms of the salmon (prepared or preserved) imports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Mozambique (X%), Mauritius (X%), Cote d'Ivoire (X%) and Zimbabwe (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Namibia (X%), Egypt (X%) and South Africa (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Egypt and Cote d'Ivoire lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.
Mozambique, with a CAGR of X%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, reducing by X% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a pronounced curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of X%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mozambique ($X per ton), while Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
