In 2022, overseas purchases of non-electric bakery ovens decreased by -9.8% to X units, falling for the second consecutive year after three years of growth. Over the period under review, imports saw a slight decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 222% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, non-electric bakery oven imports fell dramatically to $X in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a slight downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 36%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Ghana (+16 p.p.), South Africa (+2.2 p.p.), Mali (+2.2 p.p.), Kenya (+2.2 p.p.), Cote d'Ivoire (+1.7 p.p.) and Mozambique (+1.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Libya, Algeria and Egypt saw its share reduced by -1.6%, -8.9% and -17.7% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Libya ($X), Algeria ($X) and Morocco ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 34% share of total imports. Nigeria, Egypt, Angola, Ghana, Mali, Tunisia, Cote d'Ivoire, South Africa, Kenya and Mozambique lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 40%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Mali, with a CAGR of +25.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2022, falling by -15.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 213% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Libya ($X per unit), while Ghana ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
