Yams Price in Brazil (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average yams export price amounted to $1,048 per ton, with an increase of 4.3% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a mild expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, yams export price increased by +11.9% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 24%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $1,587 per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to France ($1,207 per ton) and the Netherlands ($1,117 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United States ($1,034 per ton) and the UK ($1,091 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (+16.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average yams import price amounted to $3,253 per ton, with an increase of 4.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average import price increased by 44%. The import price peaked at $3,330 per ton in 2020; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for China.
From 2015 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for China amounted to -1.2% per year.
Yams Exports in Brazil
In 2022, shipments abroad of yams decreased by -4.2% to 6.9K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.0% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 17% against the previous year.
In value terms, yams exports fell slightly to $7.2M in 2022.
