Wood Pellets Price in Lithuania (FOB) - 2023

In October 2023, the average wood pellets export price amounted to $298 per ton, stabilizing at the previous month. Overall, the export price recorded a pronounced shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 an increase of 9.4% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $439 per ton in October 2022; however, from November 2022 to October 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Denmark ($384 per ton), while the average price for exports to Latvia ($231 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Greece (-0.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Wood Pellets Price in Lithuania (CIF) - 2023

The average wood pellets import price stood at $321 per ton in October 2023, with an increase of 10% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2023 an increase of 26% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $354 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to October 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Latvia ($1,344 per ton), while the price for Azerbaijan ($207 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Latvia (+9.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Wood Pellets Exports in Lithuania

In 2022, overseas shipments of wood pellets decreased by -6.4% to 579K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, exports showed a slight curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 2.1% against the previous year.

In value terms, wood pellets exports soared to $166M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated resilient growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +12.6% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Wood Pellets Imports in Lithuania

In 2022, overseas purchases of wood pellets decreased by -16.8% to 168K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports saw a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 15% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 277K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, wood pellets imports surged to $34M in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern.
