Wire and Cable Price in Mexico (FOB) - 2023
In June 2023, the average wire and cable export price amounted to $13,715 per ton, waning by -33.7% against the previous month. Over the period under review, export price indicated modest growth from June 2022 to June 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.5% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on June 2023 figures, wire and cable export price decreased by -33.7% against May 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2022 an increase of 27% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $20,676 per ton in May 2023, and then reduced notably in the following month.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($13,788 per ton), while the average price for exports to Nicaragua totaled $10,131 per ton.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+1.6%).
Wire and Cable Price in Mexico (CIF) - 2023
In June 2023, the average wire and cable import price amounted to $17,904 per ton, remaining constant against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate temperate growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in October 2022 when the average import price increased by 109% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $19,256 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to June 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($32,889 per ton), while the price for Vietnam ($13,436 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Honduras (+12.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Wire and Cable Exports in Mexico
In 2022, approx. 823K tons of insulated wire and cable were exported from Mexico; remaining constant against the previous year. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +15.4% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +77.7% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 79% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 827K tons, leveling off in the following year.

The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +9.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
