Wire and Cable Price in Mexico Increases Sharply to $14.6 per kg
Mexico Wire And Cable Export Price in July 2022
In July 2022, the wire and cable price stood at $14.6 per kg (FOB, Mexico), jumping by 27% against the previous month. Over the last six months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.6%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in February 2022 when the average export price increased by 31% against the previous month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $17.4 per kg. From March 2022 to July 2022, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In July 2022, the country with the highest price was the United States ($14.7 per kg), while the average price for exports to Nicaragua totaled $11.9 per kg.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Nicaragua (+2.1%).
Mexico Wire And Cable Exports
In July 2022, wire and cable exports from Mexico fell sharply to 82K tons, waning by -32.6% on June 2022 figures. In general, total exports indicated a perceptible increase from January 2022 to July 2022: its volume increased at an average monthly rate of +4.9% over the last six-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on July 2022 figures, exports decreased by -32.6% against June 2022 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in June 2022 with an increase of 46% month-to-month. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 121K tons, and then dropped notably in the following month.
In value terms, wire and cable exports contracted to $1.2B (IndexBox estimates) in July 2022. The total export value increased at an average monthly rate of +6.6% over the period from January 2022 to July 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain months. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in February 2022 with an increase of 35% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at 1.4M tons in June 2022, and then contracted in the following month.
Mexico Wire And Cable Exports by Country
the United States (76K tons) was the main destination for wire and cable exports from Mexico, accounting for a 93% share of total exports. It was followed by Nicaragua (1.5K tons), with a 1.8% share of total exports.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume to the United States amounted to +5.9%.
In value terms, the United States ($1.1B) remains the key foreign market for wire and cable exports from Mexico, comprising 94% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Nicaragua ($18M), with a 1.5% share of total exports.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value to the United States totaled +6.6%.
