Vegetable Price in Vietnam (CIF) - 2022

The average vegetable import price stood at $1,012 per ton in 2022, falling by -8.6% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 33% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $1,107 per ton in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($1,372 per ton), while the price for Lao People's Democratic Republic ($419 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+7.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Vegetable Price in Vietnam (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average vegetable export price amounted to $787 per ton, increasing by 5.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, vegetable export price decreased by -7.3% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the average export price increased by 43%. The export price peaked at $849 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($1,336 per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($429 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United Arab Emirates (+7.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Vegetable Imports in Vietnam

In 2022, supplies from abroad of vegetables decreased by -1.8% to 288K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.5% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 22%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 293K tons, and then contracted slightly in the following year.

In value terms, vegetable imports fell to $291M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +10.5% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 23%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $325M, and then dropped in the following year.

Vegetable Exports in Vietnam

Vegetable exports from Vietnam declined rapidly to 202K tons in 2022, reducing by -16.5% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, exports recorded a noticeable decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 47%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 241K tons, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, vegetable exports contracted to $159M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 29% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $180M, and then contracted in the following year.
