Vegetable Oils Price in Kenya (FOB) - 2022

The average vegetable oils export price stood at $1,041 per ton in 2022, reducing by -13.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 43%. The export price peaked at $1,392 per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Tanzania ($1,471 per ton), while the average price for exports to Mozambique ($147 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Tanzania (+4.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average vegetable oils import price stood at $1,438 per ton in 2022, approximately mirroring the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a temperate expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 73%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $2,009 per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($4,380 per ton), while the price for Mauritius ($428 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Denmark (+5.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Vegetable Oils Exports in Kenya

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of vegetable fats and oils, when their volume decreased by -5.9% to 14K tons. Overall, total exports indicated a significant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +22.7% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +84.8% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 74%.

In value terms, vegetable oils exports shrank significantly to $14M in 2022. In general, exports, however, enjoyed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 108% against the previous year.

Vegetable Oils Imports in Kenya

In 2022, overseas purchases of vegetable fats and oils decreased by -45.9% to 14K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, saw significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 1,040%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 25K tons, and then fell dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, vegetable oils imports fell sharply to $20M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 1,054%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $36M, and then fell rapidly in the following year.
