Vanilla Price in China (CIF) - 2023

In June 2023, the average vanilla import price amounted to $163K per ton, dropping by -22.1% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in December 2022 when the average import price increased by 346% against the previous month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $229K per ton. From January 2023 to June 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was France ($755K per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($40,000 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+16.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Vanilla Price in China (FOB) - 2022

The average vanilla export price stood at $8,153 per ton in 2022, waning by -3.4% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, posted a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 300% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $12,739 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($71,042 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United States ($1,041 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Yemen (+45.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Vanilla Imports in China

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of vanilla, when their volume decreased by -17.3% to 11 tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 167%.

In value terms, vanilla imports reduced sharply to $1.3M in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a noticeable slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 44% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $2.1M, and then shrank sharply in the following year.

Vanilla Exports in China

In 2022, vanilla exports from China rose markedly to 121 tons, increasing by 5.9% on 2021. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 27%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 128 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, vanilla exports expanded to $989K in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 9.8% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $1M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
