Unmanufactured Tobacco Price in Belgium (FOB) - 2023
The average unmanufactured tobacco export price stood at $5,498 per ton in July 2023, picking up by 3.2% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.4%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 when the average export price increased by 28% m-o-m. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $6,562 per ton. From February 2023 to July 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Romania ($8,469 per ton), while the average price for exports to France ($1,565 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Romania (+3.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Unmanufactured Tobacco Price in Belgium (CIF) - 2023
In July 2023, the average unmanufactured tobacco import price amounted to $5,720 per ton, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.2%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 when the average import price increased by 14% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $5,807 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to July 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Greece ($9,368 per ton), while the price for Poland ($122 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+9.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Unmanufactured Tobacco Exports in Belgium
In 2022, overseas shipments of tobacco (unmanufactured) decreased by -76.7% to 48K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 3,322%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 219K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, unmanufactured tobacco exports dropped remarkably to $241M in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 3,147% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $1.1B. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 745% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 203K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, unmanufactured tobacco imports dropped dramatically to $173M in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 573%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $988M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
