Uncured Cheese Price in Australia (FOB) - 2023

The average uncured cheese export price stood at $4,624 per ton in September 2023, remaining constant against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in November 2022 an increase of 6.4% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $4,974 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to September 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In September 2023, the countries with the highest prices were the Philippines ($5,559 per ton) and Singapore ($5,495 per ton), while the average price for exports to New Zealand ($4,005 per ton) and China ($4,125 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Philippines (+1.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Uncured Cheese Price in Australia (CIF) - 2023

The average uncured cheese import price stood at $4,747 per ton in September 2023, with an increase of 7% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, showed a slight reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2023 an increase of 7% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $5,940 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to September 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Italy ($7,982 per ton), while the price for New Zealand ($4,117 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+2.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Uncured Cheese Exports in Australia

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was decline in shipments abroad of unripened or uncured cheese, when their volume decreased by -1.9% to 90K tons. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 9.4% against the previous year.

In value terms, uncured cheese exports amounted to $395M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +7.6% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, uncured cheese imports skyrocketed to $32M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +14.4% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +49.9% against 2020 indices.
