The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the production volume increased by 9.8% against the previous year. Global production peaked at $3.1B in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Production By Country

China (37K tons) remains the largest threaded copper articles producing country worldwide, accounting for 28% of total volume. Moreover, threaded copper articles production in China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, India (16K tons), twofold. The United States (15K tons) ranked third in terms of total production with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume in China totaled -1.4%. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: India (-1.1% per year) and the United States (-3.3% per year).

Imports

In 2022, global imports of threaded articles of copper contracted slightly to 27K tons, waning by -2.7% against 2021 figures. Overall, total imports indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +60.1% against 2020 indices. Import Prices By Country

In 2022, the average threaded copper articles import price amounted to $15,052 per ton, growing by 14% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. Global import price peaked at $15,929 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($35,830 per ton), while Saudi Arabia ($1,843 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In general, total exports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +45.4% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 38%. Over the period under review, the global exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

In value terms, threaded copper articles exports stood at $383M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% over the last decade. France (746 tons), the UK (506 tons) and Switzerland (298 tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Azerbaijan (with a CAGR of +344.8%), while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($80M), Italy ($43M) and Taiwan (Chinese) ($39M) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 42% share of global exports. Switzerland, France, the United States, Azerbaijan, the UK, China and India lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 38%.

Azerbaijan, with a CAGR of +401.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices By Country

In 2022, the average threaded copper articles export price amounted to $22,560 per ton, stabilizing at the previous year. In general, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the average export price increased by 15%. The global export price peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.
