Temporarily Preserved Vegetable Price in the United States (CIF) - 2023
In October 2023, the average temporarily preserved vegetable import price amounted to $886 per ton, with a decrease of -13.2% against the previous month. Over the period from October 2022 to October 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.3%. The growth pace was the most rapid in November 2022 an increase of 31% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $1,254 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to October 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was Spain ($2,389 per ton), while the price for India ($786 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+7.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Temporarily Preserved Vegetable Price in the United States (FOB) - 2023
In October 2023, the average temporarily preserved vegetable export price amounted to $861 per ton, falling by -6.1% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a slight expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in September 2023 when the average export price increased by 33% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $1,190 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to October 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was Australia ($1,719 per ton), while the average price for exports to Mexico amounted to $828 per ton.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Canada (+5.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Temporarily Preserved Vegetable Imports in the United States
For the fourth year in a row, the United States recorded growth in purchases abroad of vegetables (temporarily preserved), which increased by 29% to 51K tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +12.5% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, temporarily preserved vegetable imports rose significantly to $48M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +6.9% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
