Television Receiver Price in South Africa (FOB) - 2022
The average television receiver export price stood at $94 per unit in 2022, which is down by -22.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a mild contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 97% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $246 per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kenya ($216 per unit), while the average price for exports to Nigeria ($36 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kenya (+10.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Television Receiver Price in South Africa (CIF) - 2023
The average television receiver import price stood at $9.4 per unit in September 2023, dropping by -21.5% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 when the average import price increased by 324% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $24.6 per unit in October 2022; however, from November 2022 to September 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for China.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for China amounted to +7.6% per month.
Television Receiver Exports in South Africa
After three years of growth, overseas shipments of television receivers decreased by -9.5% to 649K units in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a prominent increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +16.3% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +57.4% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 51%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 718K units, and then dropped in the following year.
In value terms, television receiver exports contracted dramatically to $61M in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 0.3%. The exports peaked at $101M in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
