Talc and Steatite Price in Morocco (CIF) - 2022

In December 2022, the average talc and steatite import price amounted to $832 per ton, increasing by 61% against the previous month. In general, import price indicated a measured increase from December 2021 to December 2022: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.0% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on December 2022 figures, talc and steatite import price increased by +62.3% against October 2022 indices. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2022, the country with the highest price was Austria ($1,306 per ton), while the price for Finland ($502 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+7.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Talc and Steatite Price in Morocco (FOB) - 2022

The average talc and steatite export price stood at $882 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 239% against the previous year. Overall, the export price posted a remarkable increase. The export price peaked at $1,041 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Cote d'Ivoire ($895 per ton), while the average price for exports to Mauritania stood at $806 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mali (+1.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Talc and Steatite Imports in Morocco

In 2022, imports of talc and steatite into Morocco dropped notably to 5.7K tons, shrinking by -26.3% against the previous year's figure. Overall, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 45%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 7.8K tons, and then dropped markedly in the following year.

In value terms, talc and steatite imports contracted to $4.1M in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +15.5% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +53.9% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 70%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $4.8M, and then reduced in the following year.
