Synthetic Yarn Price in Australia (CIF) - 2023

The average synthetic yarn import price stood at $6,660 per ton in August 2023, picking up by 20% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 an increase of 34% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $12,234 per ton in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to August 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($24,744 per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($2,802 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+2.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Synthetic Yarn Price in Australia (FOB) - 2022

The average synthetic yarn export price stood at $15,742 per ton in 2022, picking up by 30% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 181%. The export price peaked at $18,188 per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Fiji ($21,690 per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia ($8,141 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (+66.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Synthetic Yarn Imports in Australia

In 2022, supplies from abroad of yarn of synthetic or artificial staple fibers decreased by -16.8% to 3K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 37% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 3.6K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, synthetic yarn imports rose notably to $23M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +14.7% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 29% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
