Swine; Live Price in Belgium (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average swine; live export price amounted to $120 per unit, approximately equating the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a perceptible downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average export price increased by 23% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $200 per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($187 per unit), while the average price for exports to France ($41 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+9.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In July 2023, the average swine; live import price amounted to $109 per unit, reducing by -21.2% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, recorded pronounced growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2023 when the average import price increased by 382% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $138 per unit in June 2023, and then declined markedly in the following month.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was France ($176 per unit), while the price for the Netherlands ($84.5 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Luxembourg (+3.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, approx. 904K units of swine; live were exported from Belgium; waning by -9.2% against 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 2.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at 1.2M units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, swine; live exports shrank to $108M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw a abrupt shrinkage. The exports peaked at $195M in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
