Sugar Price in Peru (CIF) - 2021
The average sugar import price stood at $410 per ton in April 2020, dropping by -4.2% against the previous month. Over the period from January 2020 to April 2020, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.0%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in February 2020 an increase of 5.9% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $428 per ton in March 2020, and then contracted modestly in the following month.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In April 2020, the highest price was recorded for prices from Colombia ($428 per ton) and El Salvador ($404 per ton), while the price for Nicaragua ($381 per ton) and Guatemala ($403 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From January 2020 to April 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Guatemala (+4.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Sugar Price in Peru (FOB) - 2021
The average sugar export price stood at $1,184 per ton in April 2020, which is down by -28.6% against the previous month. In general, export price indicated a prominent expansion from January 2020 to April 2020: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +6.4% over the last three-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on April 2020 figures, sugar export price decreased by -28.6% against March 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2020 when the average export price increased by 36% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $1,658 per ton in March 2020, and then contracted markedly in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Spain ($2,000 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United States ($580 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2020 to April 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Canada (+59.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Sugar Imports in Peru
Sugar imports into Peru soared to 131K tons in 2022, growing by 220% against 2021 figures. Overall, imports recorded a significant expansion.
In value terms, sugar imports surged to $58M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw significant growth.
