Sugar Price in Belgium (CIF) - 2023
The average sugar import price stood at $858 per ton in July 2023, with an increase of 7.6% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.9%. The growth pace was the most rapid in December 2022 an increase of 13% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $868 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to July 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Brazil ($3,711 per ton), while the price for Swaziland ($670 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+17.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Sugar Price in Belgium (FOB) - 2023
In July 2023, the average sugar export price amounted to $1,083 per ton, with a decrease of -11.8% against the previous month. In general, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2023 when the average export price increased by 27% m-o-m. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $1,228 per ton, and then reduced in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($1,634 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($700 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+2.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Sugar Imports in Belgium
Sugar imports into Belgium fell modestly to 71K tons in 2022, flattening at 2021 figures. In general, imports recorded a mild decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 8%.
In value terms, sugar imports shrank to $48M in 2022.
