Sugar Price in India (FOB) - 2023
The average sugar export price stood at $631 per ton in July 2023, falling by -10.7% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2023 an increase of 25% m-o-m. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $706 per ton, and then declined in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the United States ($1,115 per ton), while the average price for exports to Nepal ($252 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Iraq (+7.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Sugar Price in India (CIF) - 2023
The average sugar import price stood at $616 per ton in July 2023, picking up by 7.1% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price showed a modest increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in February 2023 an increase of 280% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $1,980 per ton. From March 2023 to July 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($616 per ton), while the price for Sudan totaled $600 per ton.
From August 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+1.6%).
Sugar Exports in India
In 2022, exports of sugar from India soared to 6.4M tons, increasing by 85% compared with the year before. Over the period under review, exports saw a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 112%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, sugar exports soared to $2.9B in 2022. Overall, exports posted a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 147% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Sugar Imports in India
In 2022, the amount of sugar imported into India skyrocketed to 493K tons, picking up by 18% on the previous year's figure. In general, imports, however, saw a dramatic slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 104%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 2M tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, sugar imports surged to $245M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 111% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $632M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
