Styrene Price in Brazil (CIF) - 2022
The average styrene import price stood at $1,499 per ton in 2022, picking up by 18% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 67% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $1,606 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the highest price was recorded for prices from China ($1,733 per ton) and South Korea ($1,663 per ton), while the price for the United States ($1,397 per ton) and Taiwan (Chinese) ($1,602 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+5.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Styrene Price in Brazil (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average styrene export price amounted to $1,806 per ton, reducing by -1.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 114% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $1,925 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Paraguay ($2,398 per ton) and Chile ($2,022 per ton), while the average price for exports to Uruguay ($1,774 per ton) and Argentina ($1,798 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Paraguay (+0.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Styrene Imports in Brazil
In 2022, purchases abroad of styrene decreased by -11.6% to 185K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, imports continue to indicate a mild curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 22% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 238K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, styrene imports expanded to $277M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +11.6% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +53.1% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 47%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Styrene Exports in Brazil
