In October 2023, the average starches; inulin import price amounted to $933 per ton, falling by -4% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 when the average import price increased by 6.8% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $972 per ton in September 2023, and then shrank in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Chile ($2,868 per ton), while the price for Australia ($516 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Denmark (+3.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average starches; inulin export price stood at $952 per ton in October 2023, which is down by -2.8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in November 2022 when the average export price increased by 11% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $1,049 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to October 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was Canada ($1,182 per ton), while the average price for exports to Mexico ($792 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mexico (+2.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, the amount of starches; inulins imported into the United States expanded rapidly to 491K tons, picking up by 12% against the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.2% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 14% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
In value terms, starches; inulin imports soared to $447M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +8.1% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Starches; Inulin Exports in the United States
For the fourth year in a row, the United States recorded growth in overseas shipments of starches; inulins, which increased by 8.5% to 228K tons in 2022. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +11.8% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 19%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, starches; inulin exports soared to $193M in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a strong increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +19.9% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +72.2% against 2019 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
