Starches; Inulin Price in Croatia (CIF) - 2023
In August 2023, the average starches; inulin import price amounted to $658 per ton, which is down by -7.9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a slight setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 an increase of 8.7% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $943 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to August 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Slovenia ($1,152 per ton), while the price for Serbia ($528 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+5.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Starches; Inulin Price in Croatia (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average starches; inulin export price amounted to $959 per ton, increasing by 7.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average export price increased by 18%. The export price peaked at $2,637 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Bosnia and Herzegovina ($1,127 per ton), while the average price for exports to Taiwan (Chinese) ($749 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to North Macedonia (+1.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Starches; Inulin Imports in Croatia
Starches; inulin imports into Croatia dropped to 21K tons in 2022, waning by -2.4% against the previous year's figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 13% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 21K tons, and then shrank slightly in the following year.
In value terms, starches; inulin imports skyrocketed to $15M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw significant growth. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Over the period under review, total exports indicated a buoyant increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.1% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, starches; inulin exports soared to $862K in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +11.8% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +90.8% against 2020 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
