Spirits and Liqueurs Price in Ghana (CIF) - 2022

The average spirits and liqueurs import price stood at $3.5 per litre in 2022, surging by 31% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the average import price increased by 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $3.5 per litre in 2013; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($9.8 per litre), while the price for Poland ($1.1 per litre) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+12.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Spirits and Liqueurs Price in Ghana (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average spirits and liqueurs export price amounted to $0.9 per litre, which is down by -3.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average export price increased by 2.9%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $6.5 per litre in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($2.5 per litre), while the average price for exports to Togo ($0.3 per litre) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Liberia (+5.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Spirits and Liqueurs Imports in Ghana

After three years of growth, purchases abroad of spirits, liqueurs and other spirituous beverages decreased by -33.2% to 15M litres in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a perceptible expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 37% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at 22M litres in 2021, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, spirits and liqueurs imports declined to $51M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated strong growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +15.4% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +53.7% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 43%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $58M in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

Spirits and Liqueurs Exports in Ghana

In 2022, the amount of spirits, liqueurs and other spirituous beverages exported from Ghana contracted significantly to 2.4M litres, waning by -63.9% on the previous year. Overall, exports saw a precipitous decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 19%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at 9M litres in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, spirits and liqueurs exports shrank notably to $2.1M in 2022. In general, exports faced a precipitous decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 22%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $12M in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
