Spinach Price in the United States (FOB) - 2023
In August 2023, the average spinach export price amounted to $2,585 per ton, standing approximately at the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 when the average export price increased by 6.2% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $2,999 per ton in November 2022; however, from December 2022 to August 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Canada ($3,517 per ton), while the average price for exports to Mexico stood at $1,909 per ton.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mexico (-0.2%).
Spinach Price in the United States (CIF) - 2023
The average spinach import price stood at $3,382 per ton in August 2023, which is down by -2.8% against the previous month. Overall, the import price showed a noticeable setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 an increase of 21% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $4,449 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to August 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Canada ($5,908 per ton), while the price for Mexico amounted to $3,005 per ton.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Canada (+0.3%).
Spinach Exports in the United States
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was decline in overseas shipments of spinach, when their volume decreased by -2.2% to 48K tons. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 8.3%.
In value terms, spinach exports dropped to $134M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 4.5%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $140M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, the amount of spinach imported into the United States expanded markedly to 25K tons, picking up by 5.4% against the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +12.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years.
