Spices; Saffron Price in Croatia (CIF) - 2022

The average spices; saffron import price stood at $995,385 per ton in 2022, surging by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a noticeable downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 689%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $2,488 per kg. From 2017 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Montenegro ($5,438,000 per ton), while the average price for exports to Bosnia and Herzegovina ($70,761 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Slovenia (+47.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the amount of spices; saffra imported into Croatia surged to 65 kg, rising by 41% compared with 2021. In general, total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +13.0% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +66.7% against 2020 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
