Spices; Saffron Price in Colombia (CIF) - 2022

In 2022, the average spices; saffron import price amounted to $176,797 per ton, increasing by 4.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a perceptible decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 76% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $256,659 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($369,939 per ton), while the price for Italy ($9,600 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (-0.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of spices; saffra, when their volume decreased by -8.3% to 330 kg. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 75% against the previous year.

In value terms, spices; saffron imports fell slightly to $58K in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +17.2% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +61.0% against 2019 indices.
