Silicon Price in Singapore (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average silicon import price amounted to $57,235 per ton, increasing by 59% against the previous year. In general, the import price enjoyed a modest expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average import price increased by 74% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($148,436 per ton), while the price for China ($13,296 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Norway (+7.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Silicon Price in Singapore (FOB) - 2022
In September 2022, the average silicon export price amounted to $43,806 per ton, rising by 80% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price enjoyed moderate growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2022 when the average export price increased by 285% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $55,825 per ton in February 2022; however, from March 2022 to September 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Germany.
From September 2021 to September 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Hong Kong SAR amounted to +9.3% per month.
Silicon Imports in Singapore
After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of silicon decreased by -34.4% to 2.5K tons in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a temperate expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +6.6% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 57%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 3.9K tons, and then reduced markedly in the following year.
In value terms, silicon imports rose to $145M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 18%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
