Shelled Walnut Price in Australia (CIF) - 2023
The average shelled walnut import price stood at $4,593 per ton in July 2023, dropping by -5.7% against the previous month. In general, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in November 2022 when the average import price increased by 22% month-to-month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $6,178 per ton. From December 2022 to July 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($7,047 per ton), while the price for the United States ($4,113 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+0.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, the average shelled walnut export price amounted to $3,356 per ton, falling by -13.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a deep downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 53% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $9,518 per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was New Zealand ($7,644 per ton), while the average price for exports to Turkey ($2,217 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+1.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, purchases abroad of shelled walnuts decreased by -4.7% to 4.2K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports saw a noticeable setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 4.4% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 4.8K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, shelled walnut imports stood at $26M in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 21%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $31M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
