Sheepskin and Lambskin Price in the United States (FOB) - 2022

The average sheepskin and lambskin export price stood at $2,274 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a mild shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the average export price increased by 33%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $2,569 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were China ($2,297 per ton) and Turkey ($2,297 per ton), while the average price for exports to Brazil ($1,672 per ton) and Canada ($2,293 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Turkey (-0.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Sheepskin and Lambskin Price in the United States (CIF) - 2022

The average sheepskin and lambskin import price stood at $2,363 per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -35.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 80% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $4,941 per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($13,741 per ton), while the price for India ($442 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Australia (+21.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Sheepskin and Lambskin Exports in the United States

In 2022, approx. 2.8K tons of sheep or lamb skins (without wool) were exported from the United States; reducing by -19% on 2021 figures. In general, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 62%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 3.4K tons, and then dropped notably in the following year.

In value terms, sheepskin and lambskin exports reduced to $6.3M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a resilient expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.0% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +58.2% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 68% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $6.7M, and then dropped in the following year.
