Sausage Price in South Africa (FOB) - 2023

The average sausage export price stood at $1,843 per ton in July 2023, rising by 12% against the previous month. Overall, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Namibia ($4,195 per ton), while the average price for exports to Lesotho ($1,517 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Namibia (+5.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Sausage Price in South Africa (CIF) - 2022

In 2022, the average sausage import price amounted to $6,869 per ton, which is down by -23.4% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, sausage import price decreased by -27.7% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average import price increased by 28%. The import price peaked at $9,497 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($14,211 per ton), while the price for Hong Kong SAR ($687 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+1.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Sausage Exports in South Africa

In 2022, the amount of sausages and similar products of meat exported from South Africa shrank rapidly to 9.8K tons, reducing by -22.9% compared with the previous year's figure. Overall, exports showed a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 17%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 13K tons, and then declined dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, sausage exports fell remarkably to $18M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a mild downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 44%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $24M, and then declined notably in the following year.
