Safety Glass Price in Switzerland (CIF) - 2023
In August 2023, the average safety glass import price amounted to $43.4 per square meter, declining by -8.2% against the previous month. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in December 2022 an increase of 10% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $51.2 per square meter. From January 2023 to August 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was China ($236 per square meter), while the price for Germany ($32.3 per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+8.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Safety Glass Price in Switzerland (FOB) - 2022
In 2021, the average safety glass export price amounted to $108 per square meter, growing by 7.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a mild shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $167 per square meter in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($135 per square meter), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($47 per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+5.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Safety Glass Imports in Switzerland
In 2022, supplies from abroad of safety glass decreased by -1.6% to 5.1M square meters for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +10.9% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +36.6% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 34%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 5.1M square meters, and then fell slightly in the following year.
In value terms, safety glass imports reached $226M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 13%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Safety Glass Exports in Switzerland
In 2022, exports of safety glass from Switzerland totaled 539K square meters, picking up by 1.6% against the previous year. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 5.3%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
