Which Country Imports the Most Safety Glass in the World?

Global paper bag imports stood at 16M tonnes in 2016, surging by 4% against the previous year figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the period from 2007 to 2016; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2010, when imports increased by 11% from the previous year level. Global paper bag import peaked in 2016, and are expected to retain its growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, paper bag imports amounted to $20B in 2016. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% from 2007 to 2016; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations over the period under review. Over the period under review, global paper bag imports reached its maximum level of $22B in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength.

Paper Bag Imports By Country

In 2016, Germany (1.4M tonnes), China (1.2M tonnes), Italy (1.1M tonnes), the Netherlands (1M tonnes), the U.S. (1M tonnes), Mexico (929K tonnes), and France (781K tonnes) were the major importers of paper bag in the world, comprising 48% of total import. The following importers ; Poland (468K tonnes), Spain (453K tonnes), Belgium (449K tonnes), Canada (426K tonnes), and the UK (424K tonnes) held approx. 14% of total imports, each.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of paper bag imports, among the main importing countries, was attained by the Netherlands (+8.9% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest paper bag markets worldwide were the U.S. ($2.6B), France ($1.7B) and Germany ($1.4B), together comprising 27% of global imports.Mexico, the Netherlands, the UK, Canada, Belgium, Poland, Italy, Spain and China lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 29%.

The Netherlands (+3.4% per year) experienced the highest growth rate of paper bag imports, among the main importing countries, over the last 9 year period, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Paper Bag Import Prices By Country

In 2016, the average import price for paper bag amounted to $1,303 per tonne, descending by ;4.0% against the previous year. Overall, paper bag import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2011, when it surged by 12% year;to;year. Global paper bag import peaked of $1,527 per tonne in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength.

There were significant differences in the average import prices amongst major importing countries. In 2016, the country with the highest import prices was the U.S. ($2,481 per tonne), while China ($134 per tonne) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of paper bag import prices was attained by the U.S. (+2.9% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the period from 2007 to 2016- the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2011, when it surged by 8% against the previous year level. Over the period under review, global safety glass imports reached its maximum volume of 7.4M tonnes in 2015, leveling off in the following year.

In value terms, safety glass imports totaled $10B in 2016. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% from 2007 to 2016- the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. Global safety glass import peaked of $11B in 2014- however, from 2015 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength.

Safety Glass Imports By Country

In 2016, China (2.3M tonnes) was the main importer for safety glass, creating 32% of total imports. Germany (484K tonnes) occupied the second position in the ranking, followed by the U.S. (445K tonnes), and Belgium (365K tonnes). All these countries together occupied approx. 18% share of total imports. Poland (282K tonnes), France (246K tonnes), Italy (229K tonnes), South Korea (201K tonnes), Canada (166K tonnes), Mexico (161K tonnes), Japan (161K tonnes), and the UK (149K tonnes) followed a long way behind this figure.

China experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. At the same time, South Korea (+18.7%), Japan (+8.6%), Canada (+6.1%), the U.S. (+5.0%), Germany (+2.6%), Mexico (+2.3%), Italy (+2.0%), and Belgium (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, South Korea emerged as the fastest growing importer/exporter in the world, with a CAGR of +18.7% from 2007-2016. Poland, and the UK experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, France (-1.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2007 to 2016, the share of South Korea, and the U.S. decreased by -2.1%, and -2.1% percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Germany ($1.3B), the U.S. ($1.1B) and the UK ($628M) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2016, together comprising 30% of global imports. These countries were followed by France, Canada, Belgium, South Korea, China, Japan, Mexico, Italy and Poland, which together accounted for a further 32%.

South Korea (+16.5% per year) experienced the highest growth rate of safety glass imports, in terms of the main importing countries, over the last 9 year period, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Safety Glass Import Prices By Country

In 2016, the average import price for safety glass amounted to $1,369 per tonne, surging by 3% against the previous year. Overall, safety glass import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2010, when import price increased by 6% against the previous year level. Global safety glass import peaked of $1,508 per tonne in 2008- however, from 2009 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

Import prices varied noticeably by country of destination. the country with the highest import prices was the UK ($4,208 per tonne), while China ($113 per tonne) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of safety glass import prices was attained by China (+10.8% per year), while the other global leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
