Rice Bran Price in South Africa (CIF) - 2022

The average rice bran import price stood at $62 per ton in 2022, approximately mirroring the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the average import price increased by 262%. The import price peaked at $1,514 per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for Malawi.

From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Lesotho amounted to +7.8% per year.

Rice Bran Price in South Africa (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average rice bran export price amounted to $635 per ton, picking up by 62% against the previous year. Overall, the export price enjoyed a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the average export price increased by 509%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $2,008 per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Zambia ($1,390 per ton), while the average price for exports to Lesotho ($324 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Botswana (+5.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Rice Bran Imports in South Africa

Rice bran imports into South Africa fell remarkably to 14K tons in 2022, reducing by -32.1% on the previous year's figure. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a slight expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 208% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 20K tons, and then shrank dramatically in the following year.
