Exports from South Africa

In 2023, overseas shipments of maize bran were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a four-year declining trend. In general, exports saw a strong increase. The exports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2023, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In 2023, supplies from abroad of maize bran decreased by X% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2022 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then plummeted in the following year.

In value terms, maize bran imports dropped markedly to $X in 2023. In general, imports continue to indicate a mild setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2022 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.

Imports by Country

Mozambique (X tons), Botswana (X tons) and Zambia (X tons) were the main suppliers of maize bran imports to South Africa, together accounting for X% of total imports. Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia and Zimbabwe lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X%.
