Rendered Pig Fat Price in Croatia (FOB) - 2023

The average rendered pig fat export price stood at $2,447 per ton in July 2023, approximately reflecting the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in November 2022 when the average export price increased by 39% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $2,451 per ton in June 2023, and then reduced in the following month.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In July 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices to Hungary ($2,468 per ton) and Germany ($2,441 per ton), while the average price for exports to Montenegro ($2,107 per ton) and Bosnia and Herzegovina ($2,268 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bulgaria (+5.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average rendered pig fat import price amounted to $1,509 per ton, increasing by 2.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $2,525 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($3,795 per ton), while the price for Slovenia ($1,278 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Slovenia (+11.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Rendered Pig Fat Exports in Croatia

In 2022, the amount of lard and other pig fat (rendered) exported from Croatia dropped sharply to 518 tons, falling by -15.2% compared with the previous year's figure. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 52% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 611 tons, and then shrank sharply in the following year.

In value terms, rendered pig fat exports skyrocketed to $727K in 2022. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 83%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Over the period under review, imports saw a significant expansion. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
