Recovered Paper Price in Brazil (CIF) - 2023
In September 2023, the average recovered paper import price amounted to $172 per ton, falling by -9.8% against the previous month. In general, the import price recorded a noticeable decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in July 2023 when the average import price increased by 15% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $267 per ton in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to September 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the United States ($194 per ton), while the price for Paraguay ($78.0 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Honduras (+12.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Recovered Paper Price in Brazil (FOB) - 2023
The average recovered paper export price stood at $160 per ton in September 2023, waning by -8.4% against the previous month. In general, the export price saw a mild slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2023 an increase of 30% month-to-month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $403 per ton. From May 2023 to September 2023, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Bolivia ($414 per ton), while the average price for exports to Paraguay ($124 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Paraguay (+9.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Recovered Paper Imports in Brazil
In 2022, purchases abroad of recovered paper decreased by -76.4% to 45K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, posted a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 677% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 189K tons, and then declined rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, recovered paper imports declined markedly to $11M in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 982% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $52M, and then declined dramatically in the following year.
