Raw Silk Price in Vietnam (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average raw silk export price amounted to $46,297 per ton, declining by -10.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average export price increased by 35%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $64,418 per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($55,105 per ton), while the average price for exports to France ($46,277 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+3.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Raw Silk Price in Vietnam (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average raw silk import price amounted to $57,297 per ton, surging by 3.1% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.7%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 39% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $68,278 per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the highest price was recorded for prices from Brazil ($59,518 per ton) and China ($59,116 per ton), while the price for Uzbekistan ($53,882 per ton) and India ($53,886 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+2.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Raw Silk Exports in Vietnam
In 2022, overseas shipments of raw silk decreased by -12.8% to 1.2K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, total exports indicated a buoyant increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +11.7% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +39.3% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 35% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 1.4K tons, and then shrank in the following year.
In value terms, raw silk exports fell dramatically to $55M in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 79%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $71M, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.

Raw Silk Imports in Vietnam
In 2022, approx. 252 tons of raw silk were imported into Vietnam; declining by -9% compared with 2021 figures. In general, imports saw a significant contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 22%.
In value terms, raw silk imports fell to $14M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a sharp decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 14%.
