Pumpkin Price in Canada (CIF) - 2023
In September 2023, the average pumpkin import price amounted to $1,244 per ton, dropping by -9.7% against the previous month. Over the period from December 2022 to September 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.9%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 an increase of 23% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $1,407 per ton in July 2023; however, from August 2023 to September 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($1,516 per ton), while the price for Costa Rica ($899 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (+4.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Pumpkin Price in Canada (FOB) - 2023
The average pumpkin export price stood at $554 per ton in September 2023, declining by -52.7% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price showed a noticeable decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in February 2023 when the average export price increased by 72% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $1,354 per ton in July 2023; however, from August 2023 to September 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for the United States.
From December 2022 to September 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for the United States amounted to -4.4% per month.
Pumpkin Imports in Canada
In 2022, supplies from abroad of pumpkin (squash and gourds) decreased by -10.9% to 53K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, imports saw a noticeable curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 4.2%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 60K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, pumpkin imports expanded slightly to $60M in 2022.
