In 2022, approx. 6.8K tons of carob were produced in Lebanon; growing by 70% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, the total production indicated a strong expansion from 2017 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.1% over the last five-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production increased by +74.0% against 2019 indices. As a result, production reached the peak volume and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term. Carob output in Lebanon indicated prominent growth, which was largely conditioned by a resilient expansion of the harvested area and prominent growth in yield figures.
In value terms, carob production reduced markedly to $3.5M in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, showed a pronounced reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the production volume increased by 90%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $7.5M. From 2019 to 2022, production growth remained at a lower figure.
Carob Harvested Area in Lebanon - 2022
In 2022, approx. 378 ha of carob were harvested in Lebanon; standing approx. at the year before. Overall, the harvested area, however, showed a mild decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 3.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the harvested area dedicated to carob production reached the maximum at 413 ha in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the harvested area stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Carob Yield in Lebanon - 2022
The average yield of carob in Lebanon surged to 18 tons per ha in 2022, increasing by 69% against 2021 figures. Overall, the yield indicated buoyant growth from 2017 to 2022: its figure increased at an average annual rate of +11.0% over the last five years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, carob yield increased by +71.3% against 2019 indices. As a result, the yield reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
